Paul, ground is ground, neutral is neutral. Where they are connected I have no idea, for sure not in my equipment. The case of my phono is connected to the safety ground not to the neutral. The reasons why I'm onto this and has not listened to th...

The GSC-related part of my 2014 was about refining my system so I can reliably "get inside" and explore the largest works, including Bruckner. Refinements were mostly about slightly re-tuning my speakers and tweaking my newly-re-built phono cartridge...

Do I remember that a big part of Romy's choice for a pre-amp was based on the specific needs of his DSET Milq, with it's inter-stage X/Os? And do I remember the Placette Active Pre-amp has consistent, fu...

PS caps, of course...I'm guessing I'll have about .25/second to make my assessment...Any luck with the APS on the phono stages?Best regards,Paul ...

Hi Romy Thanks for your reply.I am in the market for either a new pre-amp or phono and line stage.I know they need around 47k for optimal loading, but what else might I be concerned with.Did you have a look on Agon ...

Romy, I suppose you have to buffer when you split the front channels, and you have to gain 6 dB. How, exactly, are you doing the split now, from, say, phono stage to rear speakers?Best regards,Paul...

Anthony, I didn't realize the potential of your remark, thank you. The chassis has been tied to the signal GND already at the birth as otherwise the phono would develop noise even off the wall. I have to go throroughly with a scope to see where the n...

In the past there was such a concept of full-function preamplifiers that included MM and MC inputs. With time such devises die out and nowadays it is VERY difficult to find a full-function preamplifier generally and a good sounding full-function ...
I have a phono stage from the Korean company Silvaweld that uses the 5651 tube in the power supply as a voltage reference. It also is using a Russian 6C19Pi tube along with EF86 pentode as the high voltage regulator. ...

...That shows comparative spectrum analyses experiment made by an Australian woman, using the output from cd, sacd, dvd-a and phono (vinyl). Anyway, the results of her experiments, put in very reductionist form, showed superior dynamic range and...

...with an Ortofon 10, sold it and got a Benz Pearl....neither of these are high end by any stretch, but the Ortofonwas way noisy compared to the Benz...beats me.I'm using an older Luxman PD277 TT, what do you think it would cost to really make an up...

"Cap problem"? Naturally, it was the BEP, again. @#*&%!!!This afternoon the electricity was as good as it's ever been, and things sounded even better than I ever planned (ie, almost as good as I could imagine...).IOW, the Cardas cap i...

I thought of the AMR equalization curve options as I listened to a London FFRR LP (Kubelik/VPO/New World) today using my new technique to optimize stylus tracking. The FFRRs are well known to have some extra LF, all right, but with optimum VTA this re...

Well, I think it may be something like Tominari of Dynavector used to do with his Phono stage a while ago. He considered the cartridge as a current source which sorts of 'unloads' it. http://www.dynavector.com/products/amp/e_pha200.html...

Another thought (sorry...): Did you say a while back that you ground your TT to the pre's neutral/signal ground!?! If yes, maybe try docking that MOTOR somewhere else, preferably upstream. Otherwise, why not ground the effing washing machine (...

Considering the minute amount of energy "created" (transformed) in a phono cartridge, perhaps some systems would truly benefit from geophysical orientation. Heck, in the days of expensive picture tube computer monitors there was a different tube for ...

I have played around with foil for some time and always loved the sound of it. It seems how thin the foil is helps to get a better body of the sound. The sound is better "time aligned" supposedly and it really sounds like it. I tried WBT conn...

Sorry, Alex, I guess I was not paying attention. If Romy or Thorsten see your post, they can help, for sure, and a few others here also use that model. I know little about this phono stage.Best regards,Paul S...

I thought about this for many years... but, to make the story short:I agree with that idea for Loudspeaker manufactures, this makes a bit sense, but even here you will have experiences, which will make you die 10 years earlier.Avant-Garde for example...

Romy, why not get this guy's phono stage to try so we all can benefit from an unbiased opinion of its performance? Rgs,montepilot...

Hi, I am new here and would like to say hi.I am a owner of an ET SU-1 and would like to know what phono stage would go best with it. Would a Lamm LP2 be a good match? Will be using a Dynavector XV1s with it. Thanks in advance...

It's polishing a turd though isn't it? I listened to the 834 quite a bit when it came out and thought it sounded poor, even for the price. imho, The circuit's just bad. If you do all that to it it isn't really an 834 anyway. I used to work for a valv...

The positive feedback published a review by Marshall Nack of SP-102 Phono Stage: http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue69/vitus_sp102.htmIt is an interesting review despite that some of the Marshall’s comments do not makes sense at all. I did not he...

Bob Graham of Graham Engineering can provide you with a silver wire transformer that sounds great to my ears. More accurately, I don't hear it detracting from my enjoyment. I use mine in conjunction with his silver wired phono cartridge s...
Is there such a thing as partly unshielded arm wire? If you want that run shielded, don't you have to start at the cartridge connection?
Paul, the tonearm wire runs inside the metal armwands (EMT & SME), which in tur...

The 834p is a tried and true circuit. It should be OK. If you have hum, I would suspect the step up transformers first and the power supply second. Maybe a ground lead is not attached?Take it completely out of the system, disconnect the phono leads, ...
I've tried even placing a cheater plug on the PP+ unit and still get the hum. Why can everything be plugged into another conditioner or everything into the wall and all is dead quite BUT plug either the phono stage and or the TT mo...

You are right about the sound of YouTube.I recorded the sound directly from LCR phono through TASCAM DR-100 recorder (24 bit / 96 kHz) and added it into video then uploaded to YouTube....

Ok, already, using as many words as you like.I at least need something for my phono stage that increases the number of days I can use it each month. If it's a real, "no-qualifiers" full-system solution I may have a siezure getting out my che...
